Free Crochet Flower Pattern
Hesperis matronalis – Dame’s Rocket ( aka damask violet )
Need a simple little flower to embellish your next crochet project?
The crocheted version of this little purple/blue flower measures approximately 3.5″ across / 3.5″ tall.
Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn (Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn)
Hook: 4.5 mm (7) hook
Abbreviations: ch – chain, sc – single crochet, st – stitch, sts – stitches, sl st – slip stitch, * to * – repeat the instructions between the two *s the number of times indicated, tr3tog – treble 3 together
For the purposes of this pattern, the tr3tog is worked in one stitch – it is not being used as a decrease stitch but instead to form the petal of the flower.
tr3tog – *yarn over the hook two times, insert the hook into the stitch indicated and pull up 1 loop, (yarn over the hook and pull through 2 of the loops on the hook) twice*, repeat from * to * two more times; yarn over the hook and draw through all remaining loops (all 4) on the hook
Colour 1: pale yellow
Colour 2: hot purple
R1: with colour 1, ch 2, crochet 8 sc sts into the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st to the 1st sc to join, finish off and weave in ends of colour 1.
R2: attach colour 2 with a sl st join (need help? see this tutorial: How to Join New Yarn with a Slip Stitch ), in the same st as the sl st join, * (ch 4, tr3tog, ch 4, sl st), skip the next st; sl st to the next st*, repeat from * to * 3 times, sl st to the 1st sl st join of the round, finish off and weave in ends

Hi Cathrin, I used a 4.5 mm hook for this design. That is a pretty small hook for acrylic weight yarn 🙂 Hope this helps, Rhondda
