154 Crochet Wave Patterns: Create Stunning Afghans, Bedspreads, and More!

Title: 154 Crochet Wave Patterns
Author: Darla Sims
Publisher: Leisure Arts, Inc
ISBN: 9781601405586
Available from Amazon

I purchased a copy of this book last year for my Crochet Library. The opinions expressed here are my own.

This compendium of crochet stitches in one of my favourites. 154 choices for beautiful waves, ripples and chevrons – all with colour photographs and detailed written instructions.

Each design begins with the “chain multiple” instructions to allow you to use the pattern with any yarn and hook combination.

The special stitch instructions are included within the individual patterns so you do not need to flip back and forth to complete your chosen project. This is especially helpful when you are using the eBook version of the publication.

Some of the designs are lacy, some are solid and many show how the design will look using multiple colours.

Favorite Stitches

Some of my favorite designs in this book are:

  • Granny Chevron
  • Exquisite
  • Singles & Doubles
  • Caprice
  • Arched Lace
  • Salsa

You can get your own copy from Amazon.

I chose to use one of my favorites to create this free crochet pattern for you, called Loverly (page 127).

Midnight Aura Wrap Crochet Pattern

R1: chain 42

R2: Right Side: 1 dc in the 4th ch from the hook (note: the 3 skipped ch sts count as the 1st dc of the row), ch 1, skip the next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, skip the next ch, 3 dc in the next ch, ch 3, 3 dc in the next ch, ch 1, skip the next ch, dc in the next ch, ch 1;

*[yarn over, skip the next ch, insert your hook into the next ch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook (yarn over, insert your hook into the next ch and yarn over and pull up 1 loop; yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on the hook) repeat 4 times, yarn over and pull through all 6 remaining loops on your hook (note: this bracketed section [ ] counts as 1 dc)], ch 1, skip the next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1, skip the next ch, 3 dc in the next ch, ch 3, 3 dc in the next ch, ch 1, skip the next ch, 1 dc in the next ch, ch 1*;

repeat from * to * across to the last 5 chs,

yarn over, skip the next ch, insert your hook into the next ch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook, (yarn over and insert your hook in the next ch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 of the loops on your hook) repeat 3 times, yarn over and pull through all 5 remaining loops on your hook.

You may wish to use a stitch marker to mark R2 as the Right Side of your project.

R3: ch 3 (note: this ch 3 counts as the 1st dc of the row so you do not work into the underlying stitch as this dc takes its place),

turn, skip the first ch-1 sp; (1 dc and ch 1) in each of the next 2 dc;

(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in the next ch-3 sp, ch 1

skip the next 2 dc, dc in the next dc, ch 1

You will be working the next decrease section over 3 dc and 2 ch-1 sps. Once complete it counts as 1-dc:

(decrease section)*yarn over, insert your hook into the next dc, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook [yarn over, insert your hook in to the next ch-1 sp, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook, yarn over and insert your hook into the next dc, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook] repeat 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 6 remaining loops on your hook, ch 1, 1 dc in the next dc, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in the next ch-3 sp, ch 1, skip the next 2 dc, 1 dc in the next dc, ch 1 *

Repeat from * to * across to the last  3 dc sts (note: remember the skipped ch-3 from R1 counts as a dc)

{yarn over, insert your hook into the next dc, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops on your hook}, yarn over and insert your hook into the next ch-1 sp, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 of the loops on the hook, repeat from { to } 2 more times (remember the skipped ch-3 from R1 counts as a dc).

Yarn over and pull through all 5 remaining loops on your hook.

R4 – R65 : repeat R3, finish off and weave in all ends

  1. Looks so cool can’t wait to try, just have to get that yarn here hopefully at hobby lobby 🙂

  2. Thanks Fortune! I’m thinking the Patons Metallic will look really pretty 🙂 I have a few balls in my stash of the navy and silver – I may give it a go when I’m done this month’s Dishcloth CAL 🙂 Let me know how your’s turns out too please 🙂 Rhondda

  3. Thank you for sharing this beautiful shawl pattern,im just starting and am using patons metalic, ill let you know how it turns out❤

  4. Hi Cindy, I wonder if someone has some still in their stash? I loved that yarn too and wish it was still available. I was able to find some still on amazon in 3 colors here: https://www.amazon.com/Red-Heart-Boutique-Midnight-Whisper/dp/B0055E8Z30/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1512060530&sr=8-1&keywords=boutique+midnight+yarn&th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=oomdescro-20&linkId=a19da27405d106d2da2b5639cb903787 but really I can’t find it anywhere else 🙁 If I come across something that works well I will update the post. All the best, Rhondda

  5. In my post above I meant to say, “In my opinion, there isn’t any other kind of yarn that will be able to give the same impact to this wrap as the yarn that was used in the picture above!!” Sorry about that!!!

  6. Now that I have seen this wrap I am do not believe any other yarn will be able to do this pattern justice. The mixture of the colors is PERFECT and the sparkle of the metallic threads makes this wrap stunning and unfortunately, in my opinion, unable to give the same impact as it does with the Red Heart Boutique yarn. I have some Caron Party Yarn that has the metallic threads going through it but I do not believe the wrap will come any where close to being what the wrap looks like in this picture!! So disappointed that I will not be able to reproduce this amazing wrap!!
