Free Crochet Pattern: Simply Pink Newborn Hat

When I received my package of lovely yarn from Red Heart, I received two balls of Anne Geddes Baby yarn. This yarn is perfect for baby projects; 80% acrylic, 20% nylon and machine washable (a must for babies). This yarn is soft and easy to work with (it is not splitty).

The first project I completed with this yarn was to design a wee hat for a sweet baby who is due to arrive this summer (yes I am going to be an Auntie again!). I love babies and I love having the opportunity to design new items for them!

Supplies:

Red Heart Yarn, Anne Geddes Baby, Rosie

Please note, Anne Geddes Baby Yarn has been discontinued. Please substitute Red Heart Baby Hugs Light Yarn.

4.00 mm, size G crochet hook

ch: chain, dc: double crochet, sl st: slip stitch, x: times, st: stitch, sts: stitches, 2-dc cluster: 2 double crochet cluster, 3-dc cluster: 3 double crochet cluster

Please note: when you see x 12 after a set of parentheses it means to repeat the instructions between the two brackets the number of times indicated. So

ch 2, (1 dc in the first st, 2 dc in the next st) x 12

means

ch 2, (1 dc in the first st, 2 dc in the next st) repeat 12 times

Special stitches:

2-dc cluster: this cluster is worked into a chain stitch, *yarn over, insert hook into the specified chain stitch, yarn over and draw through two loops on your hook* repeat from *to* a second time, yarn over and draw the loop through all 3 loops on the hook

3-dc cluster: this cluster is worked across 3 double crochet stitches, *yarn over, insert hook into the next dc, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on your hook* repeat from *to* for the next two double crochet stitches, yarn over and draw through all four loops remaining on the hook

Gauge: 8 dc in 2 inches (this measurement is taken in the double crochet rounds after the increase rounds – i.e. when you are working ‘even’)

  1. Hi Teresa, you can use the print button in the post to create a copy. I never created an ad-free pdf of this one. I can add it to my list though for future pdfs. Best wishes, Rhondda

  2. Hi Nora, I only have that pattern in 2 sizes right now. I’m going to take a look to see if I can resize it for you – I’m not sure if the pattern repeat will work out for small sizes though. Were you looking for preemie sized hats to fit a 12″ head? or smaller? Thank you 🙂 Rhondda
